5 Reasons to Start a Crowdfunding Campaign

No matter how inspired you are, it’s always daunting to start a crowdfunding campaign. You worry if anyone will donate; if people will believe in your campaign as much as you do, and if you’ll reach your fundraising goal.

In this blog, we share five reasons why you should absolutely start a campaign – especially when it’s for a cause that’ll bring some good to the world.

1. Your Campaign Will Be the Gift That Keeps Giving

Starting a crowdfunding campaign can be an excellent form of Sadaqah Jariyah – a form of continuous charity that benefits entire generations and communities for years to come. With each person that benefits from the project, you’ll receive reward in this life and the Hereafter.

Through hadith, we learn of the power of Sadaqah Jariyah:

The Messenger of Allah (saw) said: “When a person dies, his deeds come to an end except for three: Sadaqah Jariyah [a continuous charity], or knowledge from which benefit is gained, or a righteous child who prays for him”. (Muslim)

Allah (swt) tells us in the Qur’an that the reward of spending in charity is:

“[like] a grain of corn which grows seven ears, and each ear has a hundred grains” (2:261).

Water projects, which provide water for years to come, are a true example of Sadaqah Jariyah. Through these projects, we see families prosper for generations, as they’re able to grow food, send their children to school and enjoy better health.

2. Support Something You Really Care About

When you choose to start a crowdfunding campaign, you can raise money for any good cause. There are no restrictions on the location, longevity or beneficiaries of the project. This means you can run a campaign for a very specific project like helping somebody pay for their education, or something broader like supporting victims of a recent earthquake.

While charities promote some fantastic causes, a crowdfunding campaign allows you to focus on something niche that people might not know about. It also allows you to fundraise for creative initiatives for good causes, such as publishing the first series of prophetic stories in sign language.

Starting a crowdfunding campaign is your opportunity to bring some important issues to light and raise funds for a cause that is close to your heart.

 3. You Can Own Your Campaign

Your crowdfunding campaign is entirely yours. Alongside choosing the cause, you’re in control of what your campaign looks like. This means you decide what images, fonts, text and colours to use. You can decide if you want to create a video or to use an animation. The choice is entirely yours.

You’ll be well and truly in the driving seat of your own campaign and you’ll be harnessing the power of community to support an incredible cause.

This is your opportunity to get creative and innovative about a project you believe in, and that we know will make a remarkable difference in the world insha Allah.

4. Meet Like-Minded People

Once your crowdfunding campaign is live, you’ll join an online network of thousands of fundraisers just like yourself, as well as donors, community activists and campaigners. You’ll learn about the power of unity and about the huge number of incredible causes being fundraised for.

The crowdfunding scene is a collaborative space that allows you to make vital connections that help you take your chosen cause further.

5. Your Crowdfunding Campaign is Only the Beginning

As your crowdfunding campaign grows in popularity and strength, more people will learn about the fantastic cause you’re supporting. It’s important to gain the trust of your donors by sharing regular updates and evidence of your work. In turn, this will build your reputation in the crowdfunding space and invite even more donors to join your cause.

Your work doesn’t have to stop when your campaign ends. There’s so much more you can do. With your supporters, you can take your cause further, support new causes and work with other fundraisers to continue making a difference in the world.
